ASSURANCE OF SALVATION |
| "The length of our days is seventy years, or eighty, if we have the strength...for they quickly pass,
and we fly away...Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." Psalm 90:10,12 |
|
"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction,
and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. "
Matthew 7:13-14 The gate we enter is our choice. The road we walk is our choice. It is a choice that is made today, and not at the "border". Jesus, is the "narrow gate". We have an opportunity to find forgiveness for sins through the loving gift of Christ. |
| We have an opportunity to finish our days living for our Creator and not for ourselves.
Thank God that we can be shaken from worldly distraction by the reality of death, being reminded of the reason for living. The reason is Christ. Acts 17:24-27 "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind..." Matthew 22:37 By believing in Christ and changing our lives to be in harmony with this belief, we will obtain what we do not deserve as those who have sinned against a loving God. In Christ we will obtain eternal life, and His peace in times of spiritual and physical turbulence. And every joy and benefit that we derive from satisfying our purpose through Christ will last into eternity with Him. |
| He is the Guard that stands at the "border".
Please know that my tone of writing is in love. I truly believe that salvation is a gift. Ephesians 2:8-9, How to get to heaven. |
| But I also believe that true faith bears the fruit of good works that the Father has prepared in advance for us to do.
Ephesians 2:10, John 14:15, John 15:4-6 Although our works (or our lifestyle) add nothing to the gift of
salvation (Justification), they can provide clear evidence of a true faith in Christ.
"If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the
truth..." I John 1:6-7. Though we cannot peer into the heart of man, as our God can do, we establish the credibility of the profession of faith by a persons lifestyle (of course this leaves out the private lifestyle that only God sees). Therefore, if we were to hope for salvation, we should not look back at a profession alone, but also examine what followed the profession. Jesus said, "Not everyone who says to Me 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter." Matthew 7:21 I firmly believe that anyone who truly believes in Christ will-- in this life --be transformed according to His power that is at work within us. I say all of this not to shatter hope, but to remember what God has revealed in His word regarding the evidences that lead us to hope. Truly, only the Lord knows with absolute certainty.
