“Trusting God for Who You Are”.

Q. 1 - Why do we care about who we are?

Q. 2  - Why is self-image important to us?

Q. 3 - Do you ever struggle with accepting the way God made you?

Q. 4 - What is your attitude about your personality and inner character?

This chapter could be entitled,

Trusting God to Guide My Life;

Or, How Can I Find True Happiness?

Q. 5 - Who are you?

HAVING BEEN CREATED IN THE IMAGE OF GOD,

 => Our likeness is revealed by being:

1- RATIONAL = Thinking and forming evaluations of our experience into
BELIEF SYSTEMS.

2- MORAL = Conscience functions to judge, seek justice, expressing our
BELIEF SYSTEMS.

3- EMOTIONAL = Feelings expressed as a result of our
BELIEF SYSTEMS.

4- VOLITIONAL = Choices (will) made in the service of our
BELIEF SYSTEMS..

In summary, we are personal, seeking relationships, Therefore,
our need as persons is to find SECURITY AND SIGNIFICANCE;
that is, to be loved, accepted and belong.

Can we ever attain this deep need in this life?? No, not until Heaven!!

D E M A N D S

  BUT, I MUST have these NEEDS for security and significance met!

     WRONG METHOD
 A life-style is formed as strategies, "defenses", are chosen to try to manipulate, demand,
that others love me and that I will be protected from hurt.

THE CREATION: “He is not it, and it is not He.”

Man: The IMAGE OF GOD

Man: The Radical Fall

SCHAEFFER writes:

· “Man is first separated from God,

· Then from himself,

· And then from his fellow man”. Note these are All

relationships -->

ONTOLOGICAL TRINITY,  A presupposition !

RIGHT METHOD:
GOD'S way is the way of the cross;
  to TRUST that only in Christ can we find an
absolute security and significance,
As we are Dependent upon and resting in God's sovereign care.
Our goal must be DEPENDENCE - not independence, not autonomy,  which is pride!
(Romans 8:15-39;  Hebrews 13:5-6;  Galatians 4:4-7;  I Pet. 4:10-11; II Cor. 12:7-10 )

--> Read Psalm 139:1-18

Q. 6  What words describe God’s direct personal care for us? (5-laid,10-guide,hold i.e., protect, 13-created,knit,14-made,work of God, 15-made,woven.

--> Read Psalm 139:16; Psalm 31:15. Are “bad” days and times included?

--> Read John 9:1-7,39.

“ It is the work of the Lord, Yahweh, Jehovah: The Lord opens the eyes of the blind (Psalm 146:8).

Opening the eyes of the blind was a specific work of the Messiah:

'The eyes of the blind shall be opened '. (Isaiah 35:5)"

Q. 7   Can you trust God to Guide your Life?  What is Guidance?

THE PRECEPTIVE WILL OF GOD:

--> Read I Thess. 4:3; Colossians 1:9-10.

Sanctification = hagiasmos, “HOLY”,
“Set apart for its intended purpose;
the structure of Holiness = submission to the distinctions created and established by God.” (
Dr. Peter Jones)
Romans 12:1 (ESV “A Living Sacrifice”)

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

THE PROVIDENTIAL WILL OF GOD:

Psalm 31:15 “My times are in your hands”.

Proverbs 16:

1 The plans of the heart belong to man,
but the answer of the tongue is from the LORD.

4 The LORD has made everything for its purpose,
even the wicked for the day of trouble.

7 When a man's ways please the LORD,
he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.

9 The heart of man plans his way,
but the LORD establishes his steps.

Proverbs 16:33 The lot is cast into the lap,
but its every decision is from the LORD.

Proverbs 21:1 The king's heart is a stream of water in the hand of the LORD;
he turns it wherever he will.

Proverbs 29:25 Fear of man will prove to be a snare,
but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.

Hebrews 13:5-6 Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have,
for he has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."
So we can confidently say,
   "The Lord is my helper;
   I will not fear;
what can man do to me?"

  LIFE: BIRTH -->  ALL OUR CHOICES . Prov.16:9,
"The heart of man plans his way,
  but the LORD establishes his steps"
